Chandigarh Municipal Corporation gears up for Holi Celebration Feb 24

The Chandigarh Municipal Corporation (MC) is all set to tread on a new path and explore possibilities in realms of entertainment and celebration.

To start with, the MC will organise a grand Holi celebrations in Sector 17 plaza next month. According to MC sources, in a recently held meeting of the Art and Culture Committee of the MC, including chairperson Neelam Malik, MPS Chawla, Harjinder Kaur, Ram Lal, Sarita, Brig KS Chandpuri (retd) and others, it was decided to allocate around Rs 1 lakh to organise the event.

To give a traditional flavour to the event, talks are also on between the MC officials and North Zone Cultural Centre (NZCC) to rope in artists to perform “ras lila”. School children will be there to do the “teeka” ceremony. A day before Holi, the traditional “Holika dahan” will also be organised.

Giving details of the event, one of the members of the committee said that they were making efforts to make it a big event and it would be a public-oriented celebration. There will be separate enclosures for public, officials and members of the media, said the member.

The committee is coming up with a list of other festivals and events to be organised throughout the year. The committee is also planning to organise a marathon soon.
